Welcome to my blog of all things Wargaming!
Here you will find tactics, reviews, battle reports, painting, army lists, or whatever else I deem necessary for this blog. While mainly covering the games I play (namely Warmachine, Hordes, Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Fantasy, MERCS, and Malifaux) I may also put up information on other games as I learn about them, or that seem interesting. Dust Warfare and Dropship: Commander being good examples.
For starters today I've got some Retribution of Scyrah from Warmachine. Normally I play either Trollblood or Protectorate, but with the release of Ossyan and the Vyre Warjack, I decided to come back to my angry elves.
My army right now is a variant of the Studio theme, keeping the white armor, but adding a bit more forest green. I tried for awhile working on some other color schemes, but none really turned out well, and hating to paint white I wanted to avoid the studio scheme at all costs. I finally decided to give it a go with Kealyssa as a "test model" for the scheme. I started with Army Painters Grey primer, and used some greys to build a good base for the white. The P3 white does not have amazing coverage, but it is better than GW's old Skull White (have not tried the new one yet, though I picked up some Ceramite White Base paint for my Vyre 'Jacks.). The Manticore started with a black primer, but a nice coat of light grey and a few of white turned out rather well. I used some turquoise ink for the leylines and runes, cleaned up any mistakes with even more coats of white, and finally ended with my very first white painted miniatures!
For anyone else looking to paint white, always work in nice thin layers! It may not look pretty at first, but it will look much cleaner as the layers build, and you won't lose all the detail you paid so much for.
Next up is Skeryth Issyan:
Not quite done yet, but thought I would add a picture of one about half through the process. All of his white is done now, though none of the leylines or paneling. For the horse I started with a bright cream and am slowly adding some brown to the mix with each layer, few more here should be fine. Most of the black you can still see will be hit with either a greatcoat grey or olive drab. The gold and bronze for the weapons and sides still need a good base coat, I use a dark yellow for gold and a light brown for bronze. As I get him closer to being finished I will put up another picture, with finished base as well.
Lastly for today are Ossyan and a Banshee:
You can also see Issyan and my Manticore in the background, and the models to the side are the unmounted Issyan and a full Invictor's unit. To set the Vyre 'Jacks and Ossyan apart I'm thinking of using an orange or red ink for the lines and paneling. Since the Shyeel 'Jacks are all about their energy shields, and power cannons they have a more energized blue. Vyre 'Jacks are much more visceral, forgoing shields for heavier armor and weapons, so I want them to look more "heated and energized". Hopefully I'll have these finished up soon to show what I mean.
Not bad for a first blog post. Post any questions, comments, or suggestions below, always accepting ways to improve!
